Stamp It Blog Hop — Mother’s Day

Welcome stampers and crafters to our April Stamp It Blog Hop.  I am currently in Salt Lake City, Utah attending OnStage Live (Stampin' Up!'s local Convention) and it has been pretty chilly to down right cold with snow falling in the nearby mountains.  While I am having a blast learning about our new products coming out, I am so excited to be hanging out with a number of group members on this very hop…in person!!  **squeal**

Next month is a very special month for all the Mom, Grandmas, care-taker Moms….anyone who is taking care of children in their lives.  So, we are featuring our creations around "Mother's Day".  And, what better way to make them feel extra special than with a flower (or a full bouquet) and a 'Thank You' card.  I love the Rose Garden stamp set and the wide variety of techniques that can be demonstrated using this set. You can find this stamp set in the Occasions catalog on pages 18.  Outside of the beauty of the large rose, I am in love with the font used for the sentiments.  Soooo pretty and delicate!

Oooh-la-la!!  Love how elegant and vintage this turned out…two of my FAVORITE words to describe my style of creating a card.

Creative Tips:

  • The card base is a half sheet of Mossy Meadow cardstock (8-1/2" x 5-1/2") scored at 4-1/4".  If you love Mossy Meadow, I'm here to tell you that it will be on the retirement list when it comes out and will no longer be available to purchase after May 31st…or, until the supply runs out.  This is my favorite shade of green and I will miss it terribly….great for masculine cards, too.
  • Let's start with the main focal panel, which is Watercolor paper.  I stamped the largest rose using VersaMark ink and then heat embossed with Silver Embossing Powder.  Once it cooled, I heavily misted the rose section with water using a Stampin' Spritzer.  Taking my Aqua Painter and Watermelon Wonder ink smooshed into the lid of my stamp pad, I lightly touch the pool of water within each cavity of the embossed sections of the rose.  When you touch the ink to each water pool, the ink with spread.  NOTE:  Always start with a little amount of ink….it's easier to add more ink…you cannot take it away.  Also, you do not want to use a paper towel to blot the excess water because you will also blot up the ink that you added to each cell.
  • You'll repeat the same steps to add Mossy Meadow ink to the leaves.
  • The sentiment was inked with StazOn Jet Black ink.
  • Once the watercoloring has thoroughly dried, I took the edge of my scissors and roughed up the edges…this is called 'distressing'.   To add some balance to the card, I added a tiny bow using 1" Mint Macaron Dotted Lace Trim wrapping it to the upper corner.
  • The Watercolor paper layer was adhered to a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock, but not before adding a strip of the Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper (Mint Macaron design) so that it peeks out of the upper corner where I added a bit more distressing.
